Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

It’s all about Jesus.

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the past couple weeks of dealing with sickness and praying for so many in our church family who are hurting it is that above all else we need Jesus.

Jesus calls us into intimate fellowship with Him. We are called to seek Him above all else. We are called to abide with Him. He is standing at the door of your heart knocking, waiting for you to allow Him in.

We can survive without a lot of things, but we cannot survive without God. After performing His greatest miracle of feeding the 5000 Jesus begins to teach the massive multitude that He was the Bread of Life (John 6:48.) Jesus says in John 5:35, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”

Our enemy and the cares of this life will try to separate you from the only One who gives abundant life. The devil is going to try to discourage you every day. But don’t let it get you down. Just remember he’s a liar.

Put Jesus first this weekend and meditate on Psalm 27:5,6…

For he will conceal me there when troubles come;

he will hide me in his sanctuary.

He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

Then I will hold my head high

above my enemies who surround me.

At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,

singing and praising the lord with music.

Listen & Obey - Mary found herself with an overwhelming calling. Joseph found himself with a difficult decision. Both listened and responded positively to God and His leading. (Luke 1:38; Matthew 1:24)

Worship & Give - The Wise Men also listened and followed the leading of God both through the star and an angel. Their journey of obedience ended with them worshipping and offering gifts to the newborn King. (Matthew 2:11)

Reach Out & Invite - Shepherds were considered the “least of these” in their culture. Because of their status in society they weren’t even allowed to give testimony in court. And yet, God chose them to be the first witnesses to the newborn Savior. (Luke 2:20)

Make time this Christmas to listen and obey, worship and give, and reach out and invite. You (and He) will be glad you did.

Psalm 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.

Psalm 29:2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

Psalm 95:6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

Psalm 99:5 Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

Jesus said in John 4:23, 24, “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

With so many passages in God’s Word calling us to worship that must mean we are created to worship.

True worship connects us to God. When we approach God with hearts wide open His presence invades our life. When we gather together to worship His presence permeates the place.

We live in a connected culture. We are connected to world wide news 24 hours a day. We are connect to friends through Facebook. The world is available at our fingertips on our smartphones. There is no doubt we are more connected than ever before. But connected to what? And what are these connections producing in our lives?

Let’s connect to God this weekend through worship. I have a feeling this connection will produce the rich, satisfying, full, good, abundant life God has promised us.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-79088868854736640642014-10-13T09:59:00.000-05:002014-10-13T09:59:44.809-05:00Life from the front seat. This week our youngest, Mark, celebrates a birthday. Birthdays are always a big deal to Mark but this one is extra special because he will finally be old enough to sit in the front seat of the car. This may not sound like a big deal to most but when you're the youngest and have been relegated to the back of the minivan your entire life this is a life changing event.

You should see him. He sits up tall, adjusts the seat so he can be as high as possible, and takes it all in with a proud smile. Every now and then you can hear him giggle and whisper, “Wow, you can see everything up here.” It’s a whole new world for our little Mark.

Our friend Mark Batterson has a formula… change of pace + change of place = change of perspective. There is something about changing our routine that can give you a fresh perspective. There’s something powerful about getting away on a retreat, looking at something through fresh eyes, or doing something routine in an entirely different way.

Sometimes we need a change of perspective in our prayer life or time in the Word. Maybe it’s time join a small group, get a new devotional, purchase a new version of the Bible. Perhaps it’s time to dive in and go deeper making your relationship with God your primary priority. God is big and powerful and awesome. If your relationship with him seems routine maybe its time to ditch the carseat and move up to the front seat for a whole new perspective.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-48155081800220351752014-10-05T11:47:00.001-05:002014-10-05T11:47:30.167-05:00Repentance The other week I posted an Anglican prayer of repentance on my Facebook page. I was surprised the number of positive responses I received for such a post.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

I was trying to figure out why this prayer resonated with so many?

I believe it’s because we are wired for repentance. Deep down we know we need to repent.

Repentance doesn’t mean “getting our act together.” It doesn’t mean being more religious and doing good. Repentance in the Bible literally means to “turn around.” To go in a new direction. We turn from doing life our own selfish way to doing life God’s way, the way He designed us to live. The way that leads to abundant life.

There is no doubt that there is deep sorrow and regret when it comes to repentance but there is more. There is a turning (or returning) to God for forgiveness, for new life, for new desires to do His will and walk in His ways for His glory. It is then, and only then, we are living the abundant life we were created for.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-44094207648073194832014-09-08T10:07:00.000-05:002014-09-08T10:08:22.551-05:00God is...Recently I was asked to share my understanding of theology in a 20 minute talk. My understanding of God in 20 minutes. A lifetime of studying and experiencing God in 20 minutes. God, THE Creator and Sustainer of the universe, in 20 minutes. Really? God is just too big. Every time I thought I was finished with my presentation I realized how much I had left out and how much more needed to be added. But all I had was 20 minutes so here are the thoughts I gave to best explain God.

God is love. (1 John 4:8) The defining characteristic of God is love. God defines His (agape) love in 1 Corinthians 13. Love never tears down. Love is never jealous, arrogant, rude, angry, selfish, or resentful. Love always builds up. Love is patient and kind. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

God is good. Throughout the Scriptures our God of love is seen as good. There is an enemy that seeks to steal, kill and destroy but our good God has come to bring us a rich, full, satisfying, abundant life. “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever.” Psalm 100:5.

God is big. God is sovereign. “The LORD does whatever pleases Him…” Psalm 135:6. God is so big He can turn everything around in our favor and for His good purposes. (Romans 8:28)

God speaks. God speaks crystal clear through His Word, the Bible. You don’t have to guess what God is like or what He wants. God has spoken and continues to speak today to those who have ears to hear.

God is now. God is right here, right now. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The same God who spoke and did miracles long ago recorded in Scripture still speaks and does miracles today. The same Jesus of the Gospels is alive and at work in His children and church today. God is with you alive and active right now!christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-38704810930400229572014-08-10T11:49:00.001-05:002014-08-10T11:49:34.208-05:00One Life

Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

It’s not easy to be joyful, pray and be thankful in our world. Sadness, worry and complaining are our natural responses to life. It’s difficult to do what God asks here in 1 Thessalonians. In fact, it seems like a daily struggle. I believe being successful in doing God’s will requires discipline.

In order to battle our natural negativity here are three daily disciplines to help you accomplish God’s will for your life.

Start and end each day with prayer. What you bookend your days with will set you up for failure or success. Why not begin and end each day communing with God? I can’t imagine another discipline more helpful to your success.

Practice thankfulness. Before you get caught up in complaining, express gratitude for what you have right now. When you take time to say thank you to God you’ll see how blessed you already are. Don’t wait, begin your Thankfulness Journal today!

Smile. There was a study done that proved people who smile are more joyful. Imagine that. :-) As crazy as life gets take time to look around and find something to smile about.

Psalm 14:1a

Today we are going to wrestle with question, “Does God exist?” No doubt our movie this weekend will passionately argue that “God’s Not Dead.” Perhaps you want to dig deeper on this subject for yourself or someone you know. One of my favorite apologists who argues for the existence of God is William Lane Craig. Dr. Craig is famous for his writings and public debates. In fact, he’s so good that many of the leading atheists refuse to debate him.

On Craig’s website, www.reasonablefaith.org, he offers a plethora of help to those who wish to investigate or defend the faith. Here is a quote from the entry “Does God Exist?”

Does God exist? C. S. Lewis once remarked that God is not the sort of thing one can be moderately interested in. After all, if God does not exist, there's no reason to be interested in God at all. On the other hand, if God does exist, then this is of paramount interest, and our ultimate concern ought to be how to be properly related to this being upon whom we depend moment by moment for our very existence.

William Lane Criag goes on to give three reasons why God’s existence makes a difference in our lives.

If God does not exist, life is ultimately meaningless.

If God does not exist, then we must ultimately live without hope.

On the other hand, if God does exist, then not only is there meaning and hope, but there is also the possibility of coming to know God and His love personally.

Matthew 18:3

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:38

Jesus cares about giving. He preached about it A LOT. He watched what people gave at the temple and commended the widow who gave all she had. (Luke 21:1-4) Jesus cares about our giving because He cares about our heart. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

Recently, I’ve learned a lot about giving from my children. Each one has a job this summer that provides them with some spending money. Leslie and I have taught them about tithing (giving 10%) to God first. They have all caught on but something interesting has happened. When it comes time to give they always want to give more than 10% of what they have made. They WANT to go above and beyond. I’ve also seen their growing concern to help people in need. While most adults keep what they give a secret, in a recent offering my youngest was waving around his $5 bill so proud of what he was giving to God.

Giving has made my kids better. If I follow their example I’m sure it will do the same in me. I’m not saying we should start waiving our offering around before we put it in the plate, but our hearts should rejoice for the opportunity to give, putting God first and advancing His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.

Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NLT)

Do you have a life verse?

At this point you may be asking, “What is a life verse?” A “life verse” is a verse or short passage from the Bible that speaks to your heart, almost as though it was written for just you.

There is nothing that requires you to have a life verse but I have found it extremely valuable in my walk with God. It is something the Holy Spirit can and does use to guide, comfort, or strengthen me during each season of life. My life verse seems to be my “go to” verse no matter what I’m facing. In the good times and bad God uses this passage to direct me toward His will and way for my life. I am truly thankful for my “life verse.”

This week I asked my friends what their life verses were and here are a few of their responses you can check out and highlight during your next quiet time: Jeremiah 29:11, Revelation 12:11, Philippians 4:6, Isaiah 58:6-11, Philippians 1:21, Psalm 46:10, Luke 7:47, Philippians 4:13, Romans 8:1, Proverbs 3:5-6, Galatians 2:20, John 3:16, John 10:10, Philippians 1:6, Matthew 6:33, Romans 12:2, John 15:5, 2 Corinthians 5:13, Romans 10:11, John 6:27, Mark 12:30-31.

Is there a trick to finding your life verse in the Bible? Not really. God’s Word is so deep that there are literally thousands of verses and passages to choose from. Keep your heart open when reading or hearing the Word of God. Be listening for God to speak His specific words to you.
To say I was a proud dad would be an understatement. His race would be the first of the afternoon. I got my place staked out near the finish line long before the race started. I made sure my phone had plenty of battery to video record the race. I was ready. I don’t know who was more nervous, Matthew or me.

As the runners got set I got my phone ready. And before I knew it the gun had sounded and they were off! I cheered and watched through my phone screen. It was hard to see, but that’s OK I could watch it over and over again when the race was finished. I kept my hand steady and tried to match Matthew’s movement across the finish line which seemed like a blur. I continued to cheer and met and hugged Matthew at the end of the track after he checked in with the time keepers.

I took a few more pictures of Matthew with me and his coach and then we went to watch the video of the race. But it wasn’t there. I couldn't find it. Then I realized what happened. I couldn’t believe it. I had forgotten to press record. I missed it. Watching my son race with the fastest in the state and I missed it. All because I forgot to press record.

I don’t really remember the race. I just remember trying to hold the phone steady while I cheered. I really missed it. But that’s not going to happen again. Not because next time I’ll remember to press record, but because I’m going to start putting my phone down when I’m with the kids. I don’t need a bunch of pictures and videos I’ll never look at again. I need to start connecting with the events in their lives when they happen in real time.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-60780229245903815592014-06-01T11:58:00.000-05:002014-06-01T11:58:05.854-05:00Sermon on the MountOne day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.

Matthew 5:1, 2

Today in church you will hear the Sermon on the Mount.

This one of a kind sermon, found in Matthew 5-7, is Jesus’ first and most fundamental teaching. Whether you are a new follower, followed Jesus all your life, or still investigating Christianity, the Sermon on the Mount provides the most definitive teaching on Kingdom living anywhere. No matter who you are and where you're at in your journey this teaching will challenge you.

Inside the Sermon on the Mount Jesus discusses our public life, private life, the Golden Rule, relationships, money, prayer, fasting and so much more. Jesus talks about your thoughts, actions, attitudes, and ultimately about your heart. You could spend the rest of your life studying this twenty minute sermon, but it isn't about studying the teaching, it’s all about following it’s instructions.

It’s not enough to know what Jesus requires of His followers in His Kingdom, it’s about obeying the King. The Bible says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” (James 1:22) In listening and obeying to Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount you are building your life on the Rock. christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-82291031109487062162014-05-27T14:21:00.000-05:002014-05-27T14:21:12.572-05:0020 simple lessons learned in 20 years of marriageAs Leslie and I celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary I thought I would share with you 20 simple lessons learned in 20 years of marriage.

Psalm 46:10

There are days I long to be close to God and hear His voice and yet it feels like God is both distant and silent. I know God is always with me. I know that He is always speaking to those who have ears to hear. The problem almost always lies with me and my cluttered life.

Shouldn’t it get easier? Yet, we learned earlier this year in our study of the Holy Spirit with John Bevere and through the prophetic ministry of Steve Sampson that the longer we walk with God His voice doesn’t grow stronger, rather it grows more faint and we must strive to hear His leading. How is it possible for me to hear God’s still small voice as such a busy husband, dad, pastor, etc.?

There are many times I wish I wasn't so busy with “life,” that I could just get away from everything and commune with God. I want to be like the monks of old that left their wordily lives behind to solely commune with God. What’s interesting is in some of their writings they confess that in leaving everything behind the struggles and temptations of life instead increased and they actually felt even farther away from God.

Running away is never the answer. Being still, sensing God’s presence, hearing His voice and following His leading needs to happen in the midst of real life with the kids, homes, jobs, etc. Be still in the midst of your busy day. Spend time talking and listening to the God who will never leave you and never forsake you. As you wait on the Lord, He will be there to give you strength even in the busiest seasons of life. christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-12527103835851001382014-04-06T12:12:00.001-05:002014-04-06T12:12:29.241-05:00Parenting is a challenge.Parents are the pride of their children.

Proverbs 17:6

Parenting is a challenge. In fact, parenting is the most difficult job I’ve ever had and since there is no time off and it seems like it will never end, sometimes it feels more like bondage. But bottom line, it’s the most sacred obligation I’ll ever have and to be honest I love the fact that Leslie and I have been chosen by God to steward the lives of our three boys.

When our boys were young we were, for the most part, able to provide all they needed. But as they’ve grown Leslie and I realized they need much more than just their parents input to develop into the men that God has called them to be. Parents are important, but so are the outside voices speaking into their lives. I’m grateful for grandparents, uncles and aunts, teachers and coaches, pastors and leaders, as well as a number of trusted family friends that love our boys and help in their training.

No matter how many great influences we surround our children with it cannot and will not provide all they need. Combine that with the negative influences in our children’s lives that we can’t control and it sometimes feels like we’re fighting a losing battle. That’s why the most important thing we can do as parents is connect our children to the only source that can truly provide all they need… Jesus: the way, the truth, and the (abundant) life.

It’s so important as parents to have our children in church, clubs, conferences, camps, etc. to learn about Jesus and connect with God. That’s why I love the Ascension Convention as we see a multitude of young people gather together to connect with God in a powerful way. As a pastor I’m honored that God has chosen to use Christian Life to impact thousands of lives over the years. As a parent, I’m grateful that I can send my boys to a conference that will connect them to God.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-72399417497493028762014-03-16T12:02:00.001-05:002014-03-16T12:02:24.076-05:00Hearing the Voice of God

At Christian Life Church we believe that God still speaks today. We are honored to have Steve Sampson as our special guest this weekend. Steve moves in a prophetic gift that is spoken of in the New Testament. Steve wrote the popular book, You Can Hear the Voice of God. I hope you pick up a copy today. Here is an excerpt from the book from the section, The Voice of the Spirit.

Factually speaking, few individual Christians really know and discern the voice of the Holy Spirit. God is always willing to speak to His people, but His voice is often undiscerned and un recognized, because we fail to understand the way of the Sprit.

To learn to hear from God is the greatest ability and Christian can possess. Well-intentioned Christians make “Kingdom” decisions that are derived from man’s perspective and not God’s. These decisions are frequently made from information and logic and not based on knowledge given by the Holy Spirit to the believer.

Certainly everyone had seen misuses and abuses by those who claim to have heard God. But it is normal Christianity to walk in fellowship with God that is intimate enough to enable us to hear from Him on a daily basis. Jesus didn’t say that His sheep would listen to tapes, read books or memorize Bible verses, although these things are all good. But He did say, “My sheep hear My Voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)

Psalm 116:15

This past Monday my grandma, Ella Meade, went home to heaven. She lived a long, full life for the Lord. An enormous list of tributes have been rolling in from those she touched along the way. Here are some words that come to mind when I think about my Grandma Meade.

Love.
I know a common characteristic of grandmas is that they’re loving, but I always felt seen and heard, important and special, and unconditionally loved by my grandma. That’s a powerful gift every child needs.

Time.
I never felt rushed around grandma. She was attentive and caring. She had time for me in a busy world. When you went to her house it was never for a quick visit. We would play, watch TV, eat, maybe even sleep over. And when our time together would come to an end she would always ask, “When are you coming back?” I loved my time with Grandma.

Near.
It seems both as a child and as an adult I always lived in close proximity to my grandma. Whether a block away in the city or a mile and a half in the suburbs I have always lived near my grandma. There is something special about being close the ones you love.

Legacy.
Although my grandma never had a large platform of ministry and preferred being behind the scenes she touched countless lives. People from across the decades are telling me of the powerful impact she had on their lives. She didn’t need a pulpit to preach to the masses she chose to focus on one person, one task at a time and built a strong legacy that will long outlive her life here on the earth.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-71231108501518432362014-02-24T11:57:00.003-06:002014-02-24T11:57:34.146-06:00LeadershipA common question asked concerning leadership is: Are leaders born or are they developed? I think the best answer is: Leaders are CALLED. And I believe God has called each of us to be leaders. YOU are called by God to be a leader!

Leadership is a role each of us are to embrace at various moments and places in our lives. John Maxwell defines leadership simply as INFLUENCE. God has placed people in our life we are called to influence at work, school, home, etc. You are called to be a leader to those around you. Whether it be as simple as speaking truth in a casual conversation with a friend or as complex as helping your child toward adulthood we are all called to lead.

The world often provides polluted examples of leadership but God has given us the ultimate example of leadership in Jesus. Jesus led (and influenced) by serving others. Mark 11:45 states, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Jesus taught you and me in Mark 11:43, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.”
Today, I encourage you to hear God's call and step up into that role of leadership you were appointed to as a spouse, parent, counselor, or friend. And if you’re worried you can’t handle what God calls you to do just memorize and meditate on 1 Thessalonians 5:24, “God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful.”christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-53518865838143429892014-01-26T12:20:00.003-06:002014-01-26T12:21:15.720-06:00What is your favorite verse in the Bible?YouVersion, a popular Bible app, released its summary of its Bible usage data from 2013.

What can you do today to experience a move of God?

Move. Take action. It’s easy to get satisfied in life and go numb but it’s time to get hungry. Turn away from your inaction. Dive into God’s Word and read, pray, believe, and obey. Your relationship with God is the most important relationship you will ever have. It determines the direction and destiny of your life. God has so much waiting for you when you just take that first step.

Believe big. Remember you determine the size of God’s miracle power displayed in your life. Put your hope in God. He is the God of more than enough that has promised abundant life to all who follow Him.

Expect God to move. Your expectation moves the hand of God. God has been calling people to draw near to Him since the beginning of time. He’s just waiting for you to respond. When you move toward God you can count on Him showing up in a big way.

Be thankful. God loves when we thank Him because thanksgiving is a form of worship. We were created to worship God (Isaiah 43:21) and it’s our calling to be thankful (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Move toward God with worship and thanksgiving in your heart, there is nothing He desires more.

More than ever we need God’s power at work in our lives, families, churches, and world. The days we live in demand it. Don’t settle, sitting back, waiting for God to move. He’s calling us through His Word to move toward Him and He in turn will move toward us. (James 4:8)

New You.New Year’s is a time for resolutions. According to Forbes.com only 8% will achieve their New Year’s resolution. That means 92% of those who make resolutions are doomed to fail. So, unless your one of the lucky ones blessed with extraordinary discipline why even bother?

God is a God of “fresh starts.” Each new day with God is a fresh start. (Lamentations 3:22-23) The New Year carries a tremendous opportunity for a fresh start in each of our lives. But are we willing to take it when it seems like the percentages are stacked against us? How can we team up with God and beat the odds as we strive toward the new, fresh, abundant life He promised?

Here are some ideas to help you make a fresh start in the New Year.

Think. Too often we think in worldly terms about our lives. We need to change our thoughts. (Colossians 3:2) What does God say about you in heaven? What is your true heavenly identity in Christ? We need to see ourselves from God’s perspective. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Listen. Be mindful of what you listen to in the New Year. Our ears need to be tuned to the Holy Spirit rather than our flesh. Tune into God’s Word and the promises for your life. Let the voice of God empower your life.

Obey. Break out of your old routine. Stop living on autopilot. Force yourself to take action on what the Holy Spirit is saying to you. Don’t just try to clean up the “old person,” live out the “new” person God created you to be. Then you’ll be on the road to transformation.

Be S.M.A.R.T. When you have done the first three on the list then set your New Year’s goals and remember to be S.M.A.R.T. Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

I know change is hard, but GO FOR IT! The New Year is a great time to start. Even if you start small, just start. Small habits everyday lead to big changes. And remember even when the odds are stacked against you, God is on your side. (Jeremiah 32:27) I’m praying for you this week!christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-90313577284382993472013-12-29T13:21:00.000-06:002013-12-29T13:21:55.232-06:00The Lion Chaser’s ManifestoAs we look forward to a brand new year I thought I would repost one of my favorites from the archives. Here is the Lion Chaser’s Manifesto adapted from Mark Batterson’s In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day.

Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-ordained passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God. Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the past and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking risks. Expand your horizons. Accumulate experiences. Enjoy the journey. Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like today is the first day and last day of your life. Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you from worshiping what’s right with God. Burn sinful bridges. Blaze new trails. Criticize by creating. Worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks. Don’t try to be who you’re not. Be yourself. Laugh at yourself. Don’t let fear dictate your decisions. Take a flying leap of faith. Chase the lion!

Mark’s newest book, ALL IN, will be the launching pad for a brand new sermon series as we begin 2014. It’s going to be a great New Year in God as we go ALL IN!christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33460646.post-5186047556848377002013-12-01T11:34:00.003-06:002013-12-01T11:34:43.046-06:00AdventWe have entered the Advent season on the Church calendar. “Advent” in Latin comes from a word that means “coming.” We celebrate and prepare our hearts for the coming of our King Jesus. We remember his coming in the past as a baby in the town of Bethlehem. We celebrate the present as Jesus comes into our heart. And we look to the future as He comes as King to establish His new Kingdom.

In the front of church we have an advent wreath with candles. Each week we light a new candle which symbolizes the expectation of our coming Messiah.

Week 1 - (Purple Candle) Represents HOPE, signifying the hope that we have in Jesus when we allow Him to lead us out of darkness into light.

Week 2 - (Purple Candle) Represents PEACE. Jesus came to bring peace. From the words of Zecharias in Luke 1:79….”He will guide our feet into the way of Peace”.

Week 3 - (Pink Candle) Represents LOVE. We are reminded that He is Love and that He loves us with an everlasting love and that we are called by Jesus to love others.

Week 4 - (Purple Candle) Represents JOY. The angel in Luke 2:10, "...I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” As the day of celebration draws close we become excited with anticipation and joy. We are reminded that a life with Him is one full of Joy!

On Christmas Eve a final white candle is lit.

This Advent let us all prepare our hearts for the coming of the King.christian lifehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06430717937942783296noreply@blogger.com
